Retro Comic Book Cover…

Just finished some Old School inks for this throwback cover of Walt Disney Comics from 1945! I haven’t pulled out the ole’ dip pens for quite some time, but I do think it’s important to preserve (and use) the old methods. This will be particularly true when the machines/AI take over and no longer allow us to create our own art!

Tales to Astonish!

As promised (to my students) here is the full set – from pencils to inks to full color for the “Tales to Astonish” No. 14. I’ll have the Manga cover done soon. Stay tuned!

Comic Cover Inks

Here are the inks for a couple of pieces I did last week. The first, “Tales to Astonish” is a commission piece. The second, “Curse of the Serpent” was done for last weeks class, ‘Penciling for Graphic Novels.’

The students got to see the completed pencils, but wanted to see the full inks, so I’m posting this for them. I know they’re looking – ‘cuz I can hear them breathing on the screen!

These are photos of the inks. I will be posting the scanned inks, as well as the full color versions. It takes time, so stop pressuring me!

Burning Man?

The Human Torch has always been a favorite of mine. I don’t know, something about a flaming man (or android) just piques my interest. Always has. But what happens in the more mundane situations in life when you’re hot as the sun?!

“Where Mothers Dwell”

In case you haven’t noticed, I like to parody things. One of my favorites is parodying comic book covers, and I like the classics (gold, silver, and bronze age stuff). Here is a cover based on “Where Monsters Dwell” No. 5 (Sept. 1970). Just in time for mothers day!
